About Cookstown and Dungannon Women's Aid
Purpose
The purpose of Women’s Aid is to provide a quality based holistic service to women and children affected by all forms of domestic violence; to educate, challenge and co-operate with external agencies and the wider community with a vision to eradicate domestic violence.
Core Aims
1. Provide temporary refuge to women and their children suffering mental, physical or sexual abuse within the home.
2. Encourage the woman to take control of her own future, whether this involves returning home or beginning an independent life.
3. Recognise and care for the emotional needs of the children involved.
4.
Offer support and advice to any
woman who asks for it, whether
or not she is living in a refuge
and to offer supportive aftercare
to women leaving the refuge.
5.
Educate and inform the public, the
media, the courts, social services
and other agencies, always mindful
of the fact that abused women
are a direct result of the general
position of women in our society.
